An 0930 meet at the Top of Town Car Park, for the route brief before four riders set off. We were aiming for Clavell's Restaurant, Kimmeridge. The four riders threaded their way through Dorchester and headed out towards Broadmayne. There was a fair bit of traffic, and shortly before Broadmayne, we stopped to regroup. Following Broadmayne, the ride continued out heading towards Wool, turning right at the Red Lion Pub, and with stunning views over the sea we descended into Lulworth.
Out of Lulworth, we headed up over the ranges, with clear views over Dorset and the sea from the ridgeway, before the group headed into Kimmeridge and Clavell’s Restaurant for breakfast, where we enjoyed what was, without doubt, the best bacon butties ever!
Back out of Kimmeridge, the group headed over to Corfe Castle, and with the narrow lanes behind us, we managed to stretch our legs on the A351 towards Wareham.
After Wareham we continued towards Poole, turning left at Sandford through the Wareham forest. Taking a left at the junction with the A35, we continued to Bere Regis, continuing along the A31, turning left through Winterbourne Kingston and left onto the A354 through Winterbourne Whitchurch and down to Puddletown.
Left through Puddletown and Tolpuddle and onto the B3390 south via Affpuddle to our destination, the Frampton Arms.
It was a chilly day, and following a most enjoyable ride through Dorset, the warmth of the Log Burner in the skittle alley was very welcome. We were joined by another 3 riders who had made their own way there, including Andy Burton. Also joined briefly by Linda Ashmore on 2 wheels without an engine. Finally the skittles group was joined by Mike Groves on 4 wheels.
Lunch and skittles ensued! Andy was a dab hand at skittles. We all enjoyed a bite of lunch with warm cups of tea and a chat before heading back independently.
Sunday Ride Out - Portland Crab Sandwiches
An enjoyable ride out which passed through some lovely villages, beautiful scenery and best of all, lots of new routes for some on the ride. The brilliant weather made up for the disappointment of missing out on a crab sandwich lunch.
