DWDAM Ride Out Report – Lyme Bay Pizza Weds 21 Jun 17
Fifteen bikes and riders plus 6 pillions met at the Top of Town car park at 1800 for this evening social ride out. It was nice to see a few new faces tonight, who were welcomed and shown the drop off system. Following the safety brief, we set off with Alan Bushaway leading and Jim Leese at the tail end.
We followed a fairly simple route which took in the best of South Dorset scenery: Martinstown then over the top by Hardy’s Monument to join the B3157 coast road to Bridport, along the A35 before joining the A3052 towards Lyme Regis.
The views across South Dorset were stunning in the late afternoon, early evening sunshine. A slight cooling haze had developed in spots which meant that at times Portland could not be seen; the sea was mirror-like. With light traffic, 15 motorcycles spread out over half a mile and riding to the system was an impressive sight.
After an uneventful ride, we arrived in Lyme Regis, with the aim of parking along Monmouth Beach. There is little or no motorcycle parking spaces, so we joined the other bikes that had parked on the wide pavement at the entrance to the car park. Another impressive sight, and many passers by stopped to admire the wide variety of machines on view – not all of them BMWs!
We made our way to Lyme Bay Pizza and we hosted on the terrace overlooking the beach.
Drinks were ordered, seats taken and the food arrived; a fine election of pizza (including gluten free pizza), garlic bread, dips, sauces, squid and sardines. Everyone tucked in and after a while another pile of food was delivered. Nobody left hungry!
At around 20:45, everybody left to make their way home independently. Some took a stroll along the still busy sea front to walk off their dinner.
A very pleasant social ride to a great location with lovely food was enjoyed by all, and our thanks goes to Alan Bushaway for organising the ride and arranging the food.
Sunday Ride Out - Portland Crab Sandwiches
An enjoyable ride out which passed through some lovely villages, beautiful scenery and best of all, lots of new routes for some on the ride. The brilliant weather made up for the disappointment of missing out on a crab sandwich lunch.
