Brittany Bike Trip Friday 26th May to Monday 29th May 2017
11 bikes, 3 with pillions, we covered about 300 miles in France spread over the 3 days.
We departed TOT Car Park Friday for a 20.15 crossing Portsmouth to St. Malo.
Once on board the ferry, a few beers and a bite to eat before retiring to the cabins for the crossing.
Saturday morning 08.15 we arrived in St. Malo ready for the days ride.
We went the scenic route to Musee “Les Sanglots Longs” where a lovely French lady gave the group a personalised tour of the museum, stopping for coffee on route. The museum has been open since 1994, which features WWII history in general from a local view and the history of the wireless radio from the beginning to the 50's.
Then onto Hotel for a 2 night stay, the weather was hot which allowed us to sit outside for the evening meal at a nearby restaurant.
Nice easy start to Sunday departing the hotel 10.00 for Musée de la Résistance Bretonne.
Built on the premises of the fighting in a 6 hectare wooded park, the Museum of Breton Resistance in Saint-Marcel perpetuates the memory of this shadow army (French Resistance) who refused the yoke of Nazi occupation.
We encounter a bit of rain in the morning, but it dried up in the afternoon and the weather was once again hot enough for us to enjoy a meal outside again.
On Monday we had an earlier 7.30am start to head back to St. Malo for ferry crossing back.
Individual cabins were booked so we had somewhere to relax and dump the kit, arriving back in Portsmouth around 6.30pm. In all another good trip, with good company.
Next year I will be leading a trip back to Brittany, Friday 18th May to Monday 21st May 2018, details on separate post.
