SATNAV addresses and trip summary, with approximate timings

Total mileage in France approximately 200 miles.

Friday 18th May 2018

16.00hrs Depart TOT Car Park for 20.15 crossing Portsmouth to St. Malo. (2hrs 70miles)

Overnight crossing and cabins will be provided for the crossing.

Once on board the ferry, the restaurant and bars are open, plus they normally lay on some entertainment.

You can have a meal and a pint in the bar and then retire to your cabin for the crossing.

Aim to be at Breakfast for about 6.00am to then get ready for morning arrival in Brittany.

You normally have to vacate the cabin by 6.45am.

Remember it gets in at 8.15am French time which is 7.15am English time.

(You get £8.10 per person off the breakfast as you booked a cabin)

It’s a long crossing, but because you sleep through most of it, it seems quite quick.

Day 1. Saturday 19th May

08.15hrs Ferry arrives in St. Malo.

Drive to hotel via scenic route, part coast road, part countryside, including petrol stop & coffee stop on route.

This time for a change we plan to visit a medieval Castle on the way to the hotel (1.5hrs 50miles)

Castle of Fougéres, Place Pierre Symon, 35300, Fougéres

Then onto Hotel for 2 nights arriving Saturday 19th May at around 16.30hrs (1hr, 30 miles), short stop on route.

LA CROIX D'OR HOTEL RESTAURANT IN AVRANCHES, 83 Rue de la Constitution 50300 AVRANCHES

As the ferry crossing was cheaper I am suggesting a nicer hotel, it’s got its own parking. TBC after Recce.

They offer a half board option, it may be easier to have this one night.

This will be confirmed after the recce as we will opt for it and see if its value for money, if not we will walk into town.

http://www.hotel-restaurant-avranches-croix-dor.com/en for those that want to look online.

We will aim to arrive back at the hotel in good time for a beer and a wander into the local town.

Day 2. Sunday 20th May

Depart hotel 10.00 for Mont St. Michael, (30 mins – 15 miles)

http://www.ot-montsaintmichel.com for more information.

We will have a few hours here and plan to meet up back at the bikes around 2.30pm. Timings to be confirmed after recce. Then head back to hotel for around 3.30pm.

We can then get back in good time to visit a museum that holds manuscripts from Mont St. Michael; it is on the way into town which if people are interested we could visit called Scriptorial d'Avranches, then on into the town centre for a bite to eat.

It’s about a 10 minute walk into town from the hotel, about half a mile and the museum is just off the centre.

Day 3. Monday 21st May

10.30 Depart our hotel to head for Cherbourg for ferry crossing back. (85 miles)

We plan to take the coastal route back with a lunch stop half way.

Ferry departs 18.30, so we will plan to arrive at terminal 16.30.

Cabins booked for the return journey as well so you can change clothes, rest and have a bit to eat.

21.45 arrive back in Portsmouth for ride home under your own steam.

Estimated Costs

Estimated costs to be confirmed including ferry crossing & cabins both ways.

  • Rider with Pillion sharing room - £365
  • Solo rider single room and cabin - £320
  • Solo rider sharing twin room/cabin - £240
